Planting, full service
In the heart of Zurich’s Kreis 5 district, clean lines meet lush greenery. At Zollhaus, raw architecture and tropical plants collide. Hydroplant brings life to the gray with lush trough planting: evergreen leaves, delicate ferns, and strong contrasts transform the restaurant area into an urban oasis with a jungle feel.
The Zollhaus stands for urban diversity and new ways of living. Developed by the Kalkbreite cooperative and designed by Enzmann Fischer Partner AG, the building offers space for residential, commercial, gastronomic, cultural, and community use. It is precisely in this context that Hydroplant provides a deliberate counterbalance with its greenery:
«The plants bring warmth and liveliness to an architectural environment that is otherwise heavily dominated by concrete,» explains Moritz Küderli, CEO and project manager at Hydroplant. «They give the space structure, improve the acoustics, and create a pleasant climate.»
The greenery along the gallery creates contrast, softness, and warmth.
Over a length of 18 meters and a depth of around 90 centimeters, the plants unfold their effect in a cast-in-place concrete trough that was already integrated on site. The selection planted in it combines the striking leaves of monstera, strelitzia, and philodendron with the finer textures of ferns and climbing plants.
The result: dense, varied greenery that looks vibrant all year round. At the same time, it serves as a room divider between the restaurant and the open area. The plants not only improve the air, but also the room acoustics, an often underestimated added value in lively environments.

Hydroplant turns your entrance area into a green calling card.
The project was realized as part of a tender in collaboration with the architectural firm ffbk Architekten. The existing planters were planted, maintained, and included in Hydroplant’s full service. For the team, it is a project close to their hearts: “It’s something special to be part of a place that is trying out new ways of living together in the middle of Zurich and also providing green inspiration,” adds Moritz Küderli.
